Experience
Dr Silvia Pfeiffer has worked on novel media technology for more than 14 years.
Research for the Future
Silvia wrote her PhD thesis on audio content analysis techniques and new media applications for digital video.
At the CSIRO, she developed specifications and software for the Annodex project, creating annotated and indexed open media technology for an open media web.
Annodex is now an independent open source community and association, Australian sister to the US Xiph.Org Foundation. Silvia is the president of the Annodex Association.
Experience with current Web video technology
In 2006 Silvia co-founded an Australian company in online video technology called Vquence.
Vquence works with Flash, AJAX, and Ruby on Rails technology amongst others.
Its focus is on aggregating quantitative measurements of online video use - Web video analytics. During this course, video samples are also aggregated from diverse sources and played back in a proprietary Flash playlist player.
Silvia has experience with the complexities of the current diverse Web video technology space, the obstacles that are present and the technical boundaries that exist.
Creating the Future
The W3C is now starting an initiative to make audio and video technology online an integral part of the Web experience.
The standards that are to be developed will provide Web users with a more fine-grained and semantic means of interacting with audio and video resources than is currently possible.
Experience from Annodex will be contributed to the standardisation process.
We are at the pulse of change in online video.
